Lieutenant Colonel, Headquarters, 371st Fighter Group; U.S. Army Air Forces. Entered the service from Texas. Fatally injured in a crash following a landing accident near Coulommiers, Seine-et-Marne, Ile-de-France, on 9 September 1944; he died the next day. He had originally enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in 1940, earning six victories flying Spitfires while serving in Eagle Squadrons (Americans serving with the RAF before the US entered the war), then transferred to the USAAF in 1942. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 8 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the British Distinguished Flying Cross.
