John served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade & Pilot on a Grumman F6F Hellcat, Squadron VOF-1, U.S.S. Tulagi (CVE-72), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Illinois prior to the war.

John was "Killed In Action" in a strafing mission when he was hit by enemy flak and crashed in the Panissieres Woods between the communities of Sainte-Gervasy and Cabrieres, France during the war.
