Staff Sergeant Charles Edwin “Andy” Anderson, born 26 Mar 1916 in McCracken County, Kentucky, was the son of John and Goldie M. “May” (Bodwell) Anderson of Denver, Colorado. He left a wife, Barbara, and four children, Ronald, Robert, Roberta and Steven.

In the 1930 census 14-year-old Charles is living with his mother as head of household and siblings Elmer 19, and Evelyn 9, at 4444 South Lincoln Street in Englewood, Arapahoe County, Colorado. Englewood is a southern suburb of Denver. Brother Elmer is an “Overseer” in a rubber factory.

Charles married Barbara Dolores Wenderski in Arapahoe County on 5 Oct 1936.

In the 1940 census Charles is living with wife Barbara, son Ronald 2, and twins Robert and Roberta 1 at 4627 South Broadway in Englewood, Arapahoe County, Colorado. He is working as a stockman for the Gates Rubber Company.

Sergeant Anderson was in G Company of the 507th PIR. The 507th PIR Roster lists him as Died of Wounds 15 May 1945.

On 24 Mar 1945 S/Sgt Anderson participated in Operation Varsity, the last full scale airborne drop in WWII. He jumped into the southern edge of the Diersfordter Forest in the vicinity of Wesel, Germany. Wesel is just east of the Rhine River 34 miles north of Dusseldorf. He was wounded in action in April 1945 and died in hospital on 15 May 1945.
