Wallace served as a First Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-17 "Little Butch II" (#42-31744), 568th Bomber Squadron, 390th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Stanly County, North Carolina prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 17, 1943 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of textiles and also as Single, without dependents.

He was married after his enlistment.

Wallace was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 was shot down by enemy aircraft and crashed near Goerne, Germany during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.

Husband of Margaret E. Shipplett who resided in Norwood, North Carolina.

Wallace was a close friend & Brother-In-Law of 1st Lt. James P. Lowder, Jr., a fellow North Carolinian, and is interred next to him at Epinal.
