"He grew up in Dallas TX graduating from Crozier Tech High School, and married Dixie Edna Burt, his high school sweetheart. He had a love for flying, joined up in WW II, was missing in action on the 37th bombing raid in B-24 Liberator with a 10 man crew on May 29, 1944. Only four of the ten men aboard managed to bail out. Lt Whaley was last seen at the controls trying to keep the plane stable long enough for his crew to escape."
