David served as a Staff Sergeant & Ball Turret Gunner on B-17F #42-5836, 49th Bomber Squadron, 2nd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Chittenden County, Vermont prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on September 11, 1942 in Rutland, Vermont. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Farmer and also as Single, without dependents.

B-17F #42-5836, while on a bombing mission over Yugoslavia, was hit by bombs from a B-17 above them and their right wing was badly damaged causing them to crash near Skopje, Yugoslavia (Currently in Macedonia) during the war.

David was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
