He resided in Orange County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 8, 1943 in New York City, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Driver and also as Single, without dependents.

James died in the "Line Of Duty" when his B-24 crashed in an aerial Training mission due to "runaway props" off the coast of Italy shortly after takeoff during the war.
