B-24G #42-78209 took off, with a crew of 10, from San Panorazio, Italy on a bombing mission over Czehoslovakia. They were attacked and shot down by a German Fighter Plane and crashed near Komárom, Hungary. " 9 " of the crew were lost and 2nd Lt. Schoenlein was able to parachute out and became a POW.

Marshall was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was decorated with an Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and a Purple Heart.
