Lieut. E. C. Moon

Lieutenant Earl C. Moon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred R. Moon, who was reported missing August 15, 1944, on a mission over Southern France, has been awarded the Purple Heart and the Air Medal with six Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a pilot on a B-25 Mitchell Bomber and the last time his place was sighted was over the Mediterranean Sea when it was damaged by antiaircraft fire and all crew members bailed out. He had completed 42 missions.
Earl received his pilot's wings at Columbia, Miss., on February 8, 1944 and later received his advanced transitional training at Columbus, S.C. He went overseas May, 1944, and was stationed on the Corslean Islands, Prior to his enlistment in August 1942. Lieutenant Moon was a member of the Civil Aeronautic Corps at Connellsville Airport. He was employed by his father, a contractor, before entering the armed forces.
Three brothers are also in the service. They are: Melvin T. Moon, AMM 2/c, who is stationed at Mustin Field, Philadelphia; Corporal James Edward Moon, with a repair squadron in Italy, and Staff Sergeant Norman Wilfred Moon, a gunner on a B-17 in England.
