Son of Mrs. Myra McConnon who resided in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

John served as a Second Lieutenant & Navigator on B-24J #42-64373, 513rd Bomber Squadron, 376th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

B-24J #42-64373 took off from San Pancrazio, Italy on a bombing mission over Unirea, Romania. After a successful bombing run B-24J #42-64373 got off course on the way back to their base and flew over a small airfield near Berat, Albania where they were hit by ground anti-aircraft fire and crashed near Berat during the war.

John was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
