Son of Kenneth Austin Horner and Sarah Dahling Horner.

Husband of Betty Lee Burchard Horner.

Austin, who resided at 1408 Harrison Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a 2nd Lieutenant and line officer with the 109th Engineer Battalion, 34th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on January 6, 1941, prior to the war, in Trenton, New Jersey. He was noted as being a Teacher and as being Single, without dependents.

He was "Killed In Action" during an assult on the Gothic Line in Italy.

He had served in the Army for three years and nine months at the time of his death and was decorated with a Purple Heart.
