"That's why I think being a fighter pilot interested him because it was just him in the clouds and he liked to go fast," Martin Hintz said.
Though the family knew Hintz had died in a plane crash in Italy, they didn't know exactly where or what happened. Through a combination of luck, happenstance, many hours of research and dogged determination, Hintz's fighter plane was found this summer buried 15 feet beneath a farm field.
