John served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on B-24H #41-29285, 774th Bomber Squadron, 456th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

John resided at 609 Brighton Road, North Hills, Wilmington, Delaware prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on May 20, 1941, prior to the war, in Trenton, New Jersey.

He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Office Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24H #41-29285 took off from Stornara, Italy on a bombing mission over Munich, Germany. During & after a successful bombing mission, they were hit by ground anti-aircraft fire multiple times. On their return trip, due to severe damage, they eventually crashed into the Gulf of Venezia off the coast of northern Italy during the war.

John was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash.

He had served with the Air Force for three years at the time of his death.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.

His remains were not recovered.
