George served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on B-24J #42-64373, 513rd Bomber Squadron, 376th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Fremont County, Wyoming prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 5, 1941, prior to the war, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Farm Hand and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24J #42-64373 took off from San Pancrazio, Italy on a bombing mission over Unirea, Romania. After a successful bombing run B-24J #42-64373 got off course on the way back to their base and flew over a small airfield near Berat, Albania where they were hit by ground anti-aircraft fire and crashed near Berat during the war.

George was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster.

George also has a "Cenotaph" in the Mountain View Cemetery, Riverton, Wyoming with his parents.
