Winston Pope Ivey was the son of Richard Troy Ivey and Mary Seawell Ivey.

Winston like many young men answered the call of our nation and sadly was killed while serving.

Winston enlisted in the Army 15 Aug 1942 in Camp Croft SC. He was married to his wife, Helen, at the time.

According to a MACR filed in 1943, Pvt Winston Ivey was assigned to the 15th Air Force, 376th Bomb Group, 512th Bomb Squadron during WWII. Pvt Ivey was a crew member on a B-24D Serial Number 42-40658. The crew of ten men departed San Pancrazio Italy to fly a high altitude bombing mission over Vincenza Italy. Pvt Ivey was the assistant engineer on the mission.

The plane was badly damaged by fighter rocket and cannon fire. Some crew members were killed on the plane before it crashed.

Some crew members were able to bail out (armorer gunner S/Sgt Romeo Giagnoni, co-pilot Lt Albert Matthai, navigator Lt Norman Troxell, bombardier Capt Ward Walker, engineer T/Sgt Peter Stiles, and radio operator William Butler).

Four crew members (pilot Thomas Haigh, tail gunner S/Sgt Joseph A Kerschner, asst radio operator S/Sgt Leonard P Hagar and Pvt Ivey) were killed either on the plane or when it crashed near Padua Italy on 28 Dec 1943.
