He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 30, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Draftsmen and also as Single, without dependents.

Robert was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 was downed by German Flak over the Marshaling Yards, Ploesti, Romania during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
