Robert was the son of Arthur and Vera Marie (Gaster) Reinartson.

He enlisted as a Private at Camp Dodge, Iowa on 28 January 1943. He served with 711 Bomber Squadron, 447th Heavy Bomber Group of the US Army Air Forces. On 15 March 1945 "he was a crew member which participated in a bombing mission on Oranienberg, Germany. On the return, at 3:45 p.m., east of Wittenberg, Germany, the aircraft took a direct flak hit which burst under the pilots' compartment and the nose of the plane. The Aircraft dove to the ground and exploded in mid-air." Three survived. Robert's body was not found. A year and a day after his plane was shot down he was declared presumptively dead. At the time of his death, he was a Sgt. and was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.

He was survived by his parents and sisters Doris and Donna.
