Son of Robert E. Griffith and Leola Bell Christopher Griffith.

Robert, who resided in New Castle, Delaware, served as a Staff Sergeant and aerial Photographer and gunner on a B-26 bomber with the 432nd Bomb Squadron, 17th Bomb Group, Twelfth Air Force, U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on June 8, 1942 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was noted as Single, with dependents.

He was "Killed In Action" on his 50th mission over Neuburg, Germany.

He had served in the Air Corps for two years and ten months at the time of his death.

He was decorated with an Air Medal with seven Oak Leaf Clusters, Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, Croix de Guerre, and Purple Heart.
