John served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-24G #42-78298, 827th Bomber Squadron, 484th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Essex County, New Jersey prior to the war.

B-24G #42-78298 was on a bombing mission to Giurgiu, Romania during the war. Near their target the were hit and the #3 engine caught on fire. The pilot successfully feathered the engine and the fire went out. They were then attacked by multiple German fighter planes and ended up crashing near their target during the war..

John was "Killed In Action" in this attack.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
