Allan served as a Staff Sergeant & Assistant Engineer on B-24H "Rum Runner" (#42-94900), 845th Bomber Squadron, 489th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Chautauqua County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 13, 1942 in Buffalo, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the production of industrial chemicals and also as Divorced, with dependents.

Allan was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 crashed near Groesbeek, Netherlands during Operation Market Garden during the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
