Richard served as a Technical Sergeant & Top Turret Gunner on B-24J #42-110143, 856th Bomber Squadron, 492nd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Buffalo, Erie County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on November 19, 1940, prior to the war, in Buffalo, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Mechanic and also as Single, without dependents.

Richard was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 was shot down by German Fighters and crashed into the Baltic Sea during the war.

He was awarded an Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and a Purple Heart.
