Raymond Walgreen Dahlmann Sr., age 73, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 5, 2010. He was born in Miami, Florida on July 4, 1937, a son of the late Edwin Karl Dahlmann and Virginia Swanson Dahlmann. Ray left home at the age of 17 to join the United States Air Force and retired in 1977 after 23 years of proud service. He received a bachelor's degree with honors from Troy State University. After the Air Force, he served for 25 years as a quality control engineer with Metric Systems( DRS), retiring in 2006. Although living in Florida for many years after the military, Ray became an avid Alabama football fan when his grandson Preston made the team. He proudly cheered his grandson on as they won the National Championship in 2009. Ray was extremely proud of all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ray enjoyed golfing, bowling, and coached little league and Babe Ruth baseball. His family remembers him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and grandfather. He was also known for his sense of humor always having a joke to keep family and friends laughing. Ray is preceded in death by his parents Karl and Virginia Dahlmann. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years: Leni Dahlmann of Fort Walton Beach, 6 Children: Doris Roman and her husband Mike of Pueblo, CO., Raymond W. Dahlmann, Jr., and his wife Kim of Mobile, AL, Lt. Col (Ret) Jim Dahlmann and his wife Jenni of Colorado Springs, CO., Donna Hromadka of Fort Walton Beach, Debbie Gagnon and her husband Blaise of Navarre, FL., and Denise Dial and her husband Billy of Mobile, AL., 13 grandchildren: Jill Sanchez, Melissa Renteria, Brett Dahlmann, Kyle Dahlmann, Sherrill Dahlmann, Kirsten Nyman and 2nd Lt. Eric Dahlmann, Nick Hromadka, Brandon Hromadka, John Hulsey, Jr., Miranda Gagnon, Preston Dial and Brooke Dial, 5 great grandchildren, Jaycee Sanchez, Jocelyn Sanchez, Reaghan Renteria, Loghan Renteria and Julian Hulsey, one sister: Sandra Dahlmann and her husband Tom Snook, and one nephew: Trey Odom. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Holy Spirit Catholic Community Church, located at Hurlburt Field Chapel. Burial will follow at 2:00 P.M. at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida. Military rites will be rendered graveside. Father Elbert Fadallan will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 10, 2010, from 6-8 PM in the chapel of Emerald Coast Funeral Service, 113 Racetrack Road NE, Ft. Walton Beach, 32547. 850-864-3361.
