Robert served as a Private First Class, 11th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Atlantic County, New Jersey prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 25, 1939, prior to the war, in Mountain Home, Tennessee. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Skilled compositor and/or typesetter and also as Divorced, with dependents.

Robert was "Killed In Action" during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Service # 6714654

His brother, 2nd LT. Richard I. Blackman, also died of a "Non Battle" related incident during the war.

At the families request, the state of Pennsylvania was added to his headstone instead of his state of residence New Jersey as was normally done.

Son of Mrs. Minerva L. Roberts who originally resided in Trenton, New Jersey and moved to New Castle, Delaware after the war.

It is currently unknown why Pennsylvania is shown on his headstone instead of New Jersey like his brother's headstone. Possibly his ex-wife resided there. He is noted as also having dependent's and possibly he had children in that area.
