Son of Mrs. Minerva L. Roberts who resided in New Castle, Delaware either during the war or shortly after the war was over.

Robert served as a Private First Class, 11th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on April 25, 1939, prior to the war, in Mountain Home, Tennessee. He was noted as living in Atlantic County, New Jersey at the time of his enlistment.

He was also noted at the time of his enlistment as being employed as a Skilled compositors and typesetter and also as Divorced, with dependents.

Robert was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.

It is currently unknown why Pennsylvania is shown on his headstone instead of New Jersey like his brother's headstone. Possibly his ex-wife resided there. He is noted as also having dependent's and possibly he had children in that area.

His brother, 2nd LT. Richard I. Blackman, also died of a "Non Battle" related incident during the war.
