Sten served as a Second Lieutenant & Navigator on B-17 #42-29901, 526th Bomber Squadron, 379th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Grafton County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

B-17 #42-29901 took off from Kimbolton, England on a bombing mission to Nantas, France. They were hit by an aerial bomb dropped by a German fighter plane and crashed near Nantas, France during the war.

Sten was "Killed In Action" in this attack.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and a Purple Heart.
