After being injured in the battle of St. Lo and spending six weeks in a hospital in England, Second Lieutenant Harry E. Tepper returned to the front lines in France and was killed in action on September 5, after twenty seven consecutive days of fighting. He had received the Purple Heart medal and two citations, one of them a Presidential Unit Citation. He was the 31-year old son of Harry Tepper, Clerk in the office of the auditor of freight receipts, sixty-third street building, Chicago. Lt. Tepper was a former Illinois Central employee, having worked in the mail and baggage department at Central Station and in the maintenance department at South Water Street several years ago. Besides his parents, and a brother, James, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Tepper, a two year old daughter, Darlene, and a step-son, Frederick, nine years old.
