The son of John and Martha (Putnam) Endicott. Samuel was christened at South Church, Danvers, MA, on November 1, 1767. The early part of his life was spent on the ocean. He retired from seafaring in 1805. He then followed mercantile pursuits as a ship owner and merchant. He was frequently one of the selectmen of the town of Salem, where he lived. He also represented Salem in the legislature. In May 1794, he married Elisabeth Putnam, the daughter of William Putnam of Sterling, MA. He and his brothers, John and Moses, owned "The Orchard Farm" the homestead of the Govenor. He died at the age of 65 and was laid to rest in the family burying grounds.

In memory of Samuel Endicott Died in Salem May 1, 1828 Aged 65. He was of the 6th generation from his ancestor of that name who settled Salem in 1628.
