Arthur served as a Sergeant on B-24J "Rusty Dusty" (#42-99771), 742nd Bomber Squadron, 455th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Buffalo, Erie County, New York prior to the war.

Arthur was "Killed In Action" when his B-24, while on a mission to bomb the oil refinery at Moosbierbaum, Austria, was hit by enemy flak and crashed during the war. He was awarded an Air Medal and a Purple Heart.
