He was born April 9, 1918 in Aledo a son of Charles and Anna Haddock Beers. The family moved to Rock Island in 1920 and he received his education there, graduating from Rock Island High School. His father Charles Beers was a former Aledo banker and Mayor in the early 1900's.
He never married.
Mr. Beers was employed as a meter repair man for 45 years with Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Co., retiring in 1980.
He had resided in Aledo since 1984.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Beers served in the European Theatre and was a member of the first aircraft warning radar crew in Europe, which was involved in the Rhineland Battle.
He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Post 246 of Moline for 35 years.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker for 50 years.
Survivng is a brother-in-law, Richard Wunderlich of Milan and several cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
