Ulric Currie had achieved the rank of Captain, 4th Battalion Federal Malay States Volunteer Force, when he became a Prisoner of War with the British Capitulation on 15th February 1942.
A few days after capitulation a wounded Captain Currie was moved to the Changi Gaol Prisoner of War Camp, where he succumbed to his wounds at the Camp Hospital, Roberts Barracks Hospital on 8 August 1942. aged 54 years.
Captain Currie fought gallantly not only in World War 2, but was Mentioned in Despatches in World War 1.
His wife (Mary)Joyce Guillemard Currie of Rondebosch, Cape Province, South Africa returned there at the outbreak of war.
"Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.'
