Son of Mrs. Grace Whyte who resided in Tyler, Texas.

Thomas served as a Technical Sergeant & Radio Operator on B-24H #42-52575, 782nd Bomber Squadron, 465th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He resided in Smith County, Texas prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on January 8, 1943 in Tyler, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a File clerk and also as being Single, without dependents.

B-24H #42-52575 took off from Pantanella, Italy on a bombing mission over Ploesti, Romania. After a successful bombing mission, and while returning to base, it was noticed that one of their engines was damaged apparently from ground anti-aircraft fire over the target. They crashed into the Adriatic Sea just off the coast of Yugoslavia during the war.

Thomas was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
