Otis served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-24J "Mary Ellen" #42-50960, 515th Bomber Squadron, 376th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Osage County, Oklahoma prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on December 9, 1943 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a sheet metal worker and also as Married.

B-24J #42-50960 took off from San Pancrazio Airfield, Italy on a bombing mission over Mezzocorona, ItaIy. Due to cloudy weather it is unknown what exactly happened to this B-24 and it is believed that they crashed in the Adriatic Sea during the war.

Otis was declared "Missing In Action" on his mission.

His remains were not recovered.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster.

Otis also has a "Cenotaph" in the Ethel Reece Cemetery, Barnsdall, Oklahoma.
