2nd Lieutenant with the 15th USAAF during World WarII flying Consolidated B-24 bombers. Assigned to the 512th Bomb Squadron of the 376th Bomb Group, San Pancranzio, Italy. After a successful bombing of Vienna, Austria, the B-24G, serial number 42-78400 Lt Ritter was piloting was hit with flak, and the aircraft had to leave the bomber formation. After several attempts to reach their base, Lt Ritter and co-pilot 2nd Lt Ralph Wilson ordered their crew to bailout. The bomber crashed at Knin, Croatia killing Lt Ritter and Lt Wilson. The remaining crew who bailed out survived and returned to their base at San Pancranzio, Italy.
