Son of Joseph LeClair and Exerine (Gadouas) LeClair.

Romeo served as a Private First Class & Medical Aidman, 143rd Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Chittenden County, Vermont prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on December 8, 1942 in Rutland, Vermont. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Dairy Farm Hand and also as Single, without dependents.

Romeo was declared "Missing In Action" near the Rapido River in Italy during the war.

He was awarded the "Distinguished Service Cross", Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster.

The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Romeo A. Leclair (31200648), Private First Class, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 143d Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 21 January 1944, near the Rapido River in Italy.
