Son of Mrs. Annie Gilbert who resided in Rochester, New Hampshire.

Alfred served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-26B #42-95763, 442nd Bomber Squadron, 320th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Strafford County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on July 17, 1942 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of electrical machinery and accessories and also as Single, without dependents.

B-26B #42-95763 took off from Decimomannu, Sardinia on a bombing mission to Marziani during the war. After a successful bombing mission they were attacked by enemy aircraft which caused an on board fire. They crashed at sea approximately 1 mile off the coast of Ladispoli, Italy during the war.

Alfred was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
