Son of Mrs. Katherine Dixon who resided in Buttonwood, Pennsylvania.

George served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-24J "Mary Ellen" #42-50960, 515th Bomber Squadron, 376th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania & was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard prior to the war.

His National Guard unit was called into full time active Army service on February 17, 1941, prior to the war, from Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at that time, as being employed as a Architect and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24J #42-50960 took off from San Pancrazio Airfield, Italy on a bombing mission over Mezzocorona, ItaIy. Due to cloudy weather it is unknown what exactly happened to this B-24 and it is believed that they crashed in the Adriatic Sea during the war.

George was declared "Missing In Action" on his mission.

His remains were not recovered.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
