Flier Wrote Kin Aug. 27 of Service In Sicilian Area

SANDY CREEK. —Mrs. Goldie Nellis Crast of Lacona received word Tuesday night that her son, Maj. Glenn H. Crast, army air force pilot, had been killed in action in Italy, Sept. 15. The telegram was sent from Michigan by Maj. Crast's wife and no details were given.

Served in Sicily

Maj. Crast had been overseas since last summer and his mother received a letter from him dated Aug. 27, in which he told of being in Sicily. Enlisting as a private in the air corps in November, 1939, he was one of two local men to attain the rank of major, so far in this conflict.

After receiving his basic training he had been a test pilot at the Bell plane factory in Buffalo, had been stationed in the Canal Zone and finally helped train pilots at the
Drew field, Tampa, Fla.

He was born in the town of Sandy Creek, but the family moved
to Watertown when he was still a child; he attended Watertown schools and was graduated from Watertown high school in 1936. He has three brothers in the service, Kenneth, an aviation gunner; Delmont, a marine somewhere
in the war zone, and Jack, who enlisted in the marines Monday.

Maj. Crast is survived by his parents, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Delmont Nellis; a grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Crast; three brothers, and a sister, Mrs. Vivian Phelps.
