William served as a First Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-17G #44-6190, 773rd Bomber Squadron, 463rd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Kings County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 30, 1943 in New York City, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Bookkeeper and/or cashier and also as Married.

B-17G #44-6190 took off from Celone, Italy on a bombing mission. After take off they were called to return to base as the mission had been called off. They are believed to have crashed into the sea off Italy for an unknown reason.

William was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
