Son of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph W. Cave, Sr. who resided in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Joseph served as a Seaman Second Class, U.S.S. Plunkett (DD-431), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Fairfield County, Connecticut prior to the war.

The U.S.S. Plunkett, while in the Mediterranean, was attacked by multiple German aircraft. The Plunkett took a 250 kg (550 lb) bomb on her deck and caught fire. The bomb killed 23 and left 28 missing.

Joseph was "Killed In Action" in this attack.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

The Plunkett survived the attack and the war.
