Sam served as a Second Lieutenant & Bombardier on a B-24, 779th Bomber Squadron, 464th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Brockport, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on January 30, 1943 in Rochester, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in a Machine shop and also as being Single, without dependents.

This B-24, number unknown, while returning from a bombing mission with one engine not working, crashed when making a landing in Italy during the war.

Sam was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded an Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
