Robert served as a Technical Sergeant on B-24D #42-72896, 514th Bomber Squadron, 376th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Baltimore, Maryland prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 21, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a General industry clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24 was shot down by enemy fire and crashed in the sea near Italy during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
