Harry served as a Staff Sergeant on B-24D #42-72896, 514th Bomber Squadron, 376th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Durham County, North Carolina prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on October 8, 1942 at Camp Croft, South Carolina. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Office Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

Harry was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24 was shot down by enemy fire and crashed in the sea near Italy during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
