Sgt George J. Nicholson enlisted in New York City, New York on 21 April 1943. He attended high school for 4 years.Statement of Cpt John P. Reed:
'In the target area the pilot of this aircraft called to other members of his formation and stated that he was low on gasoline. It appears, however, that the ship continued on the return trip with the formation to the point indicated on the map where one gunner reported that the plane dropped out of formation evidently to proceed on its own. This occured at 5355N-0617E. One hour after passing afore designated aircraft reporting that he was on a 260 degree heading and asking for a QDM. While the pilot was attempting to get this navigational aid, the use of the channel he was on by ships of the 448th Bomb Group prohibited his message from being received by a ground station or else prohibited or hindered receipt or requested QDM. One aircraft was some 25 minutes flying time east of this base over the North Sea, it heard via radio the missing ship asking one for traffic directions. This was the last word heard from the aircraft.'
The airplane was shot down by anti-aircraft artillery about 3 km South West of Zwanenberg, 13 km SW of Amsterdam at about 1255 hrs.
Along with the other killed crewmembers who were recovered, he was buried in Hoofddorp on 3 July 1944 by the Germans.
