Clarence served as a Technical Sergeant & Radio Operator on B-17F #42-30608, 326th Bomber Squadron, 92nd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in York County, Maine prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on July 13, 1942 in Portland, Maine. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of textiles and also as Single, without dependents.

Clarence was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17 was hit by enemy flak and crashed into the North Sea during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
