Served with the 8th Air Force, 457th Bomb Group, 749th Bomb Squadron at Glatton Airfield, Cambridgeshire, England. Radio Operator on the B-17 Flying Fortress, "ARF and ARF" ("Half and Half") which experienced a mid-air collision with another B-17, "Bad Time Inc. II", while on a mission to Merseberg, Germany and crashed into the English Channel. Awarded Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and Purple Heart.
