Lt. Thompson was born 20 October 1922 in Milwaukie Wisconsin.

Son of William A and Matilda Thompson, brother to Kenneth and Earl. de Havilland Mosquito pilot assigned to 654th BS, 25th BG, 8th AF. Failed to Return (FTR) Salzburg mission. Shot down with his navigator Lt Earl C Edgar 7-Aug-44. Killed in Action (KIA) Missing Aircrew Report 7423
