Dirk Roor enlisted with the Air Corps on 17 March 1944 at Fort Dix in New Jersey.

I was Navigator flying in Able 23 position. I saw A/C #40, which was flying in Able 21 position, drop its bombs at 1322 hours and then when the formation rallied right, A/C #40 continued in a straight flight on a course of about 120 degree losing altitude, but apparently under control with all four engines operating, and no outward indications of serious damage. Statement from 2nd Lt Charles W. Fryer.
Sgt Roor did not bail out but was killed when the plane crash landed.

Sgt Roor was initially buried at Saint Avold Cemetery near Metz, France.

Received a Air Medal and Purple Heart.
