Sgt Myers enlisted in the Army Air corps in 1940. At the time he was reported missing in action he had 25 missions and 1,000 hours of combat duty. He graduated from Everton High school. He had been overseas for several months. He expected to return home in May.

He was the Aerial Engineer on C-47, "Bucket O Bolts," air dropping troops at Wesel, Germany.

Statement of First Lieutenant Paul W. Lindloff Jr., O-677798, 74th Troop Carrier Squadron, pilot of aircraft flying no. 3 position of no. 2 element in the last wave of Serial A-7 of operation "Varsity".

"As we made our slow down approaching DZ "X", I looked out to check my position in relation to forward elements. I saw a flak burst in the tail of a ship to my left. The tail section was completely blown away and the ship started down. I didn't see the ship hit the ground because I became very busy. I know it was a 71st ship from its position in the formation, but I don't know its tail letter".
