Son of William J. Mains & Delia Z. La Salle Mains.

Robert served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on B-24M "Red Bow" #44-50838, 714th Bomber Squadron, 448th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided at 212 Hamilton Street, Rochester, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on April 15, 1942 in New York City, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Purchasing agent and also as Single, without dependents.

He was married after his enlistment.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24 was attacked by German ME 262s and crashed near Hamburg, Germany during the war. His remains were not recovered.

He was awarded and Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and a Purple Heart.

He also has a "Cenotaph" in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rochester, New York.
