Byron served as a Second Lieutenant & Observer on B-24H (#42-52105), 714th Bomber Squadron, 448th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Santa Clara County, California prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 15, 1941, prior to the war, in San Francisco, California. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in miscellaneous occupations and also as Single, without dependents.

Byron was "Killed In Action" when his B-24, after being damaged on a bombing mission to Germany, crashed into the North Sea during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
