John served as a First Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-24M "Red Bow" #44-50838, 714th Bomber Squadron, 448th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Essex County, Massachusetts prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 7, 1942 at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of textile and also as Single, with dependents.

John was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24 was attacked by German ME 262s and crashed near Hamburg, Germany during the war. His remains were not recovered.

He was awarded and Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and a Purple Heart.
